May 20 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
£55.00
Buachaille Etive Mor, the Great Herdsman of Etive is the most iconic of all the mountain ranges within Glencoe, Scotland. Stob Dearg a fine Munro made up of huge rock faces such as the mighty Ranoch Wall. Massive imposing buttresses of rock such as North Buttress, Broad Buttress and Lagangarbh Buttress.
Standing guard at the entrance to Glencoe this mountain is unmistakable and an ascent of this mountain looks almost impossible from the roadside. This walk is 14 km/9 miles in distance, with 1110 meters of ascent with an approximate time of 8-9 hours to complete the circuit.
We will make our approach to this mountain from Lagangarbh Cottage and enter Coire na Tulaich, which is flanked on all sides with huge rock faces. The path winds up through this coire to a vast mountain bealach. From here easy walking takes us to the summit of Stob Dearg a fine munro and a most impressive view point over the vast Ranoch Moor, on a clear day it is possible to see as far as Scheihallion.
Easy walking along the rocky ridge will then take us over Stob na Doire and Stob Coire Altruim two mountain tops. Eventually we will gain the summit of Stob Na Broige another munro and our final summit of the day. This mountain is an outstanding view point over Glen Etive, towards Loch Etive and further afield to Ben Cruachan a huge mountain that stands over Dalmally.
Descent will be into Larrig Gartain where gentle walking will return us to Lagangarbh Cottage via the River Coupall.
